What "BaFin regulated" means in practice

Pepperstone's German entity is supervised by the Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht, which requires segregated client funds, capital adequacy standards, and participation in the Entschädigungseinrichtung der Wertpapierhandelsbanken (EdW) — a compensation scheme covering eligible claims up to €20,000 if the broker becomes insolvent.
